Rachelle Burk's Author Visit Programs:
Meet Your Inner Creative Genius (Grades K-5). With 30+ years’ experience as a children's entertainer and storyteller, she keeps the students laughing while learning as she discusses the craft of writing, the importance of reading, the need for research, revision, perseverance, and confidence to succeed. She shares her journey to publication, reading bits from her rejection letters, and displaying her first "book"—a cardboard-and-scrap-paper masterpiece and made in second grade. The program is tailored to different grade levels. Rockin' Research nonfiction writing/research program (Grades 4-6). Students will discover that research can be FUN. They'll hear about the author's meetings with astronauts, Mount Everest climbers, and a 103-year-old WWII spy. They'll learn about her research into super-gross creatures and even grosser body facts. Research has taken her into caves and led to close encounters with deadly sea creatures while scuba diving. Lots of humor, too! STEM "Novel Study" (Grades 5-8). Fascinating and in-depth look into the research and writing of The Walking Fish, Rachelle's science-mystery-adventure novel, winner of the National Science Teaching Association/Children's Book Council "Best Science Trade Books for K-12" award.

New Jersey Children's Author: Rachelle is also the author of Tree House in a Storm, a picture book published by Stemmer House Publishers (2009). Rachelle visits schools and libraries as an author and storyteller, and provides critique and editing services to other children's writers. As a popular children's entertainer, Rachelle performs as Tickles the Clown and other characters for parties, schools, and other events.
Tree House in a Storm (illustrated by Rex Schneider), was released by Stemmer House Publishers in September 2009. Set the my hometown of New Orleans, two children build a tree house where they play and imagine all summer long. But then Hurricane Betsy blows into New Orleans in 1965, and their beloved tree house becomes one of its victims.
This fiction story of loss, hope, and resiliency was inspired by actual events. It explores universal themes of natural disaster and rebuilding. In the classroom, this book serves as an effective discussion tool.
